Santa Sofia, paese degli amori,
viveva Vanna, fanciulla deliziosa,
aveva gli occhi profondi ed azzurrini
e amava Stoppa, il suo bel partigian.

Ma un triste giorno egli dovè partire,
lassù in montagna a caccia ai traditori,
ella piangendo l'accompagnò sul monte
e lui dal monte la salutò così:

Giovanna mia, mia fanciulla divina,
Giovanna mia, appartieni al mio cuor,
tu sarai sempre la più dolce bambina
di questo cuor, Giovanna mia!

Fece ritorno la Brigata un giorno,
sulla bandiera c'era un vessillo nero,
tra i partigiani che fecero ritorno
Stoppa non c'era, ahimè, non c'era più.

Disse a Giovanna un partigiano in pianto:
"Stoppa riposa lassù in cima a quel monte".
Ella piangendo sentì mancarle il cuore
e nel suo dolore sentì cantar così:
